Properly balanced nutrition can make your teeth stronger. A poor diet can seriously affect your oral health, damage your teeth’s enamel and weaken your gums. Because a good smile is important for both health and aesthetic reasons, you should stick to foods good for teeth. Below, we have come up with a detailed list of these foods.

Top 5 Foods Good for Teeth and Gums

apples and slices of cheese

5. Cheese

This food is rich in calcium, which strengthens your teeth’s surface. Furthermore, it decreases your mouth’s acid level, removing plague. The best kind of cheese is the harder one because it makes you produce more saliva. This will kill bacteria, helping you maintain oral health. You can even replace your unhealthy snacks with some cheddar cheese.

4. Apples

Apples are full of fiber and water. Eating an apple helps clean your teeth, and it produces saliva, which eliminates bacteria. Their fibrous texture stimulates your gums. You will feel almost as if you were brushing your teeth. You can eat a couple of apple slices right after your meals. This will keep your teeth clean until you have the chance to brush them. For all these benefits, apples have made it to our top foods good for teeth.

3. Yogurt

Like cheese, described above, yogurt is full of calcium and protein. This is one of the foods good for teeth, maintaining their strength and health. Yogurt contains beneficial bacteria, called probiotics, which is good for your gums and protects your teeth from cavities. Avoid eating yogurt that contains sugar. Stick to the natural and classic one.

2. Leafy greens

Leafy greens are super healthy, especially broccoli, spinach, and kale. They are full of calcium, minerals, vitamins, and folic acid. All these elements are good for gums and teeth. Any nutritionist would prescribe you to eat more vegetables, especially leafy greens. They help your teeth restore their protective enamel shield. You can either eat them as they are, by adding them to a salad, or you can make different smoothie recipes.

1. Carrots

Carrots are similar to apples when it comes to helping your oral health. They have a crunchy texture, being full of fibers. You can eat a carrot after every meal, to clean your teeth. Even though this doesn’t replace brushing, it still keeps your gums and teeth clean until you the get the chance to use the toothbrush. Moreover, carrots are full of vitamin A, which is great for your overall health.

Putting It All Together

If you want to restore or maintain your oral health, you should eat foods good for teeth, like the ones described above. As you can see, you should add more vegetables, leafy greens, and dairy products in your daily diet. Don’t forget to pay attention to what you drink as well. Water is the safest choice. Avoid juices that are filled with sugar. Your eating habits can make a huge difference for your oral health.
