Big lips are the big thing these days. If you look at most women in Hollywood or scroll through Instagram all we ever see are full lips left and right. The issue is that they normally either look gorgeous or way overdone. Most of the time there isn’t much of a middle ground because there is a very fine line between full lips and fake lips. Lip Injections may seem like the obvious choice when most people are trying to figure out how to make lips bigger permanently. But they are expensive, risky and the most permanent option. So if they don’t turn out right, you will be stuck with them for a long time.
The thing is, there are plenty of other options that are much more natural. And if they aren’t natural, at least they are a much less invasive method of how to get fuller lips. If you’re not interested in a lip plumper gloss, or a DIY lip plumper, you can always use makeup. There are quite a few tricks you can try to give yourself the appearance of luscious lips!
Give Those Lips A Little TLC
Taking good care of your lips is the first thing you can do to achieve the appearance of fuller lips. If your lips are free of dead skin, moisturized and all around happy, they will look much fuller. There are a few simple steps you can take when trying to figure out how to get bigger lips.
Exfoliate
I never used to know how beneficial exfoliation was all over your body. Seriously, the best thing you can do for your skin is get rid of dead skin. By exfoliating you clean your skin on a deeper level. That will allow your skin to regenerate freely and take care of itself. It’s obviously not the only step in the lip care process, but it gets them ready for the next steps.
Exfoliation is a great way to prep your lips for lipstick too. If you have dry skin, lipstick may go on and make your lips look even dryer. It will also accentuate all the imperfections, like lines and creases. If you want to, you could try these lip scrubs at home a few times a week. Once or twice a week should be enough to keep your lips looking smooth. It will also promote bigger lips naturally because exfoliating will promote blood circulation and perk those babies up.
Moisturize for the Perfect Pout
Alright, so this is a big one. This is the one that we should be good at. But to be honest, my poor lips go through a lot in the wintertime due to neglect. Who knew chapstick could be so easy to lose? Moisturization is crucial if you want to have plump lips. It’s crucial for any area of your skin, but since your lips go through so much throughout the day. A big part of this is because they do not contain oil glans of their own. So they can’t moisturize themselves. When they get dried out, they tend to look dry, cracked, or all around smaller.
If you want serious moisturization, try putting Vaseline on your lips overnight. You won’t be doing anything but sleeping, so the gooeyness factor won’t be too obnoxious. That way your lips will get deep moisturization and you can wake up refreshed and ready for your day. So if you want to know how to make lips bigger naturally without makeup tricks or odd products, proper lip care is the way to go.
How to Make Your Lips Fuller Using Makeup Tricks
I know you’re probably thinking “I’ve tried all different kinds of lipsticks and none of them make my lips look right.” But I’m not just here for the lipstick. There are quite a few different tricks you can use to make your lips look gorgeous and full, without any drastic measures.
Lip Contouring
I have to say, the contouring is getting a little out of control. But then again, I lightly contour to give my face a little more dimension. But lip contouring is something to consider. I have always wished my lips were a little fuller, but not enough to do much about it. Lip contouring is an easy way to get the effect of fuller lips without any drastic measures.
You may be wondering what lip contouring is, or maybe you’ve heard of it before. Either way, it is a way of adding dimension to your lips. So when you’re contouring your lips, there are only a few things you need to know.
How To Contour Lips
- First, line your lips with a liner that is about two shades darker than your natural lip color. You could also choose a shade slightly darker than the lipstick you plan to put on.
- Line the perimeter of your lips. Don’t be scared to go a little heavy in the corners. You can overline if you want to. That will also help your lips look a little bigger.
- Make a line down the middle of your lips and in the natural creases of your lips. There are plenty of different recommendations for contouring your lips. If you want to see it in action, you could check out some tutorial videos.
- Then apply a nude or sheer shade over the contour. Blend in the lines a little bit if you think they are too obvious. If you are working with shades that are very different from your natural shade, you will need to fill in the areas between the lines more carefully.
- After that, you can call it a day or go on to add a little bit of gloss to the center of your lips. If you aren’t partial to gloss like me, you could also add a little bit of shimmer to the center of your lips. This can be achieved with eyeshadow or highlighter, depending on what you have on hand.
Highlighter and Shading
Whether you decide to contour or not, feel free to use other makeup to accentuate your lips. Use a highlighter on your cupids bow to brighten the area. Add a bronzer or a normal contour kit, shade in the area just below your bottom lip. It’s sort of a way to deepen the area around your lips and play with lighting.
Just remember to blend it in seamlessly. You don’t want your highlight or bronzer to stand out too much. Otherwise the effect with be ruined and it will all be very obvious!
Prep Your Lips With Concealer
One tip on how to get the perfect pout is to prep your lips with concealer. It’s a good way of giving yourself a clean slate. It also makes them nice and light. That way any contouring will really pop.
Overline Your Lips
I can understand if you aren’t interested in contouring your lips. Some people don’t notice a huge difference when they do it. If you’re in a rush or you don’t see the point, you could always stick with a trusty lip line. If you already have naturally bigger lips, staying within the lines won’t be difficult. But for thinner lips, most people like to overline their lips for the effect of bigger lips. It isn’t hard to learn how to overline your lips.
Remember to use a matte liner to do the lip outline. You don’t want there to be any shine on the perimeter of your lips. You also want to make sure that the liner is just a bit darker than the lipstick you intend to use. It needs to be the same tone, such as matching red lipstick with a dark red liner. Unless you’re going for a unique look. So make sure that you don’t have some bright pink liner with a neutral pink or anything too drastic.
Lip Plumpers
I’ve always been curious about lip plumping gloss and never got around to trying it out myself. I can’t tell you if it works from personal experience. But I can tell you that lip plumper reviews are overwhelmingly positive for so many different products.
The best lip plumpers 2018 may seem a little intimidating to some of us. When you apply the lip gloss it may give you a burning or tingling sensation that makes many people uncomfortable. I just want you to know that you should always expect this. It is 100% normal. If you have a really bad experience or reaction to the product, you will know not to use it again. But everyone is different and most people get used to the product quickly.
How Do These Glosses Work?
I had to put this in here because I have always steered clear of these products. It was mainly because I thought they were causing some sort of chemical reaction that was bad for my lips. In reality, they do cause a reaction, but most of the time they do it with natural ingredients. The top ingredients include menthol, cinnamon oil, peppermint oil, or capsicum, which is derived from chili peppers.
These ingredients help cause irritation and swell lips to look bigger. So if you’re wondering how to make lips bigger, this is a good temporary fix. But it isn’t going to last a very long time, so you may need to reapply a few times throughout the day.
Best Lip Plumping Gloss
Since I have never tried these personally, I thought I would look into the top products. Plus, I thought it would be nice to have a wide point of view. At least because these can work differently for so many different people.
Too Faced Lip Injection Glossy
So this is one of the top rated lip plumping glosses. Too Faced is a very popular brand and they hit it out of the park with this one. But prepare yourself for a significant burning sensation. It is also not one of the most natural products. So keep that in mind if that was what you were originally looking for. They have 5 different colors, but since they are very sheer glosses, they won’t do much more than tint your lips.
NYX Pump It Up
I love NYX products, or at least all the ones I’ve tried so far. The NYX Pump It Up Lip Gloss is a very popular option for lip plumping gloss. It has a mild tingle and helps make your lips appear fuller and more pronounced. It is a little bit more sticky than some other options. But I have always hated lip glosses for this reason. I have always preferred matte lipsticks to avoid that sticky feeling. But if you want a more natural way of boosting those lips, this is the perfect way to pump them up!
GlamGlow Plumprageous
As I just mentioned, I hate lip gloss. I think they’re gross and sticky and never soak into your lips. I’d rather wear a chapstick with shimmer or nothing at all. So I prefer matte lipstick colors because they are very natural, but the best part is that they are hardly ever sticky.
So if you’re anything like me, this matte lip plumper by GlamGlow might be just the thing you have been looking for! In reviews, customers seemed pleased with the results. They also really liked the fact that you could apply this before regular lipstick. When it came to some of the other products, they weren’t huge fans when they would apply a gloss before a lipstick. This matte formula is a perfect alternative!
How to Get Bigger Lips with DIY Products
Now, if you aren’t interested in spending between $5-$25 on a lip plumping gloss, I think I might have some suggestions for you. There are very natural ways to plump your lips. And no, I’m not going to suggest any type of suction to pull the blood into your lips. I think that’s a great option if you don’t mind looking like you have hickey-lips. But I wouldn’t qualify it as a natural by any means.
What I mean by DIY is making your own lip plumper serums. They are simple and easy and they will moisturize and exfoliate if you want them to. This way you are entirely in control of the ingredients and the treatment you need.
How to Make a DIY Lip Plumper
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp of your choice oil (I suggest olive oil or coconut oil. Vaseline is a great option if you want something thicker.)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 4 drops of Peppermint oil
All you need is a moisturizing agent to get the cinnamon onto your lips. After you mix everything you could even pat a little extra cinnamon onto your lips with your finger.
Adding the peppermint oil is entirely optional. I think it has a nice soothing effect.
If you leave this on your lips for around 10-15 minutes while you get ready, the cinnamon will irritate your skin and make your lips swell ever so slightly. Not in a big way, but enough to make them look fuller. These ingredients will also help promote blood flow to your lips which is what makes them look slightly swollen and slightly fuller.
Lip Injections
Lip injections are very popular and they have been for quite a few years now. Everyone says they want “Kylie Jenner lips.” If you have lip fillers, good for you, I’m not here to judge. It’s just that there are lots of different types of lips. You might have a thin upper lip and a bigger bottom lip. You might have completely paper thin lips. Or very naturally full lips.
In most cases, I think it’s a much better option to embrace your natural beauty. Find something you like about your lips and accentuate it. However, I know this isn’t an option for everyone. There are a lot of confidence issues people have when it comes to their looks. But there are a few things you should consider before taking the plunge and getting injections.
What To Consider
First of all, they are very expensive. I think the normal price point should be between $500-$2,000. Keep in mind that when you’re working with your body and invasive procedures, you need to be willing to pay good money. There is no “good deal” for lip injections or cosmetic surgery. And if they say they have a good deal, you should probably run the other way. Immediately.
Always do your research and make sure you’re going to a doctor who is safe and reliable. We are very blessed to live in a world with the internet. We can do our own detective work to find out about the right doctors and what to expect during a procedure/session.
Last, I think that you should really think it over. This is by far the most crucial step. You should know for a fact that this is the right option for you before you go through with it. Lip fillers need to be touched up over time. So it won’t be a one-time payment, it may end up being a process you have to go through many times.
No matter what you decide, just make sure you’re doing it because you want to. Not because you’re trying to fit into some beauty standard. Just remember that beauty trends are constantly changing. Don’t try to keep up!
Conclusion
If you have always wanted to know how to get bigger lips at home, there are plenty of options. You can try lip plumping gloss, makeup tricks, or even DIY products. But no matter what, you won’t be able to make your lips all that big. If you have small lips, they will always be that way.
I know it’s a bummer. But lip plumping glosses and other products will only swell your lips up a bit. It will give your lips a fuller appearance temporarily, but won’t necessarily make them bigger.
I always recommend that you stay far away from using suction to enhance your lips. It increases blood flow and literally swells up your lips to look bigger. But it also causes some damage and could potentially bruise your lips in the process.
Use makeup to give your lips a fuller appearance and call it a day. You are your biggest critic and the people who care about you won’t even notice whether you have big or small lips. But they will be the first to notice when you get some work done! So have fun with and embrace your natural beauty!
