Salicylic acid for skin can help treat oily skin and acne. However, sometimes the skincare products which contain salicylic acid do not feature the right concentration at the right pH. We all know that salicylic acid represents the main ingredient in aspirin. This ingredient’s name comes from the Latin term for willow trees, namely salix. Hence, we find out that it was first obtained from a complex carbohydrate found in willow bark.

This compound is a useful pain reliever and also improves circulation. If you apply this compound on oily skin, it will break down oily sebum which clogs pores. Furthermore, it annihilates fats in the skin, treating the facial skin with 2% salicylic acid.

Salicylic acid for skin can help you prevent and treat acne

If you want to get rid of acne, you need to apply a mild solution of this compound directly onto the skin. Gently scrub your face with this mixture, and you will notice that it won’t break blood vessels or rupture pores. Nevertheless, salicylic acid treatment has several benefits which cannot be obtained through simple scrubbing.

Furthermore, it gently removes dead skin while also opening pores. Salicylic acid increases the production of collagen. It also makes the skin to look less flaccid. Furthermore, it is responsible for removing spots from the skin, annihilating discoloration. It may be too strong to apply it on dark skin. Specialists indicate that salicylic acid represents the only beta-hydroxy acid which can be used in skin care.

Acne care products may include about 30% alpha-hydroxy acids. Salicylic acid, just like benzoyl peroxide, is more effective when you apply it after the acne has disappeared. Nevertheless, without the cleansing and exfoliating effects of this compound, the pores clog again, and a new acne breakout will occur.

The exfoliating effect improves the efficiency of other active ingredients. Due to the fact that this compound is effective at low concentrations, it is less irritating than other products. Just like acetylsalicylic acid, salicylic acid stimulates circulation of oil out of pores. Similar to aspirin, it also diminishes redness and inflammation. Using it at the right concentration, it can help produce better skin color compared to alpha-hydroxy acids.

This compound is especially recommended for oily skin

However, not everyone can benefit from such a skin treatment. Dermatologists indicate that people who have the following skin types should be cautious when using it.

– black skin which tans very easily but never burns

– dark brown skin which tans easily and almost never gets sunburn

-beige to brown skin, such as the Hispanic or Mediterranean skin type

Specialists indicate that these skin types produce the pigment melanin. The skin uses this pigment to restrict inflammation. Due to the fact that salicylic acid causes the skin to inflame in a good way, these skin types produce large amounts of melanin. Hence, black or brown skin spots substitute acne. When purchasing a salicylic product, you need to pay attention to the concentration. If it contains a high level of this compound, it may cause skin burns.

To sum up, salicylic acid for skin can bring a lot of benefits, but can also cause serious damage if it is not properly used.
