1. Apply at least SPF 15 every two hours

SPF is your best ally when it comes to tanning. The higher, the better, so it’s preferable to wear lotions that have SPF 20 to 50 on them so that your skin the well protected. To get maximum protection, apply the sunscreen about half an hour before going outside. The average recommendation is to reapply it every two hours. However, you should do it more frequently if you are swimming or sweating. Be careful to also apply it on the ears and lips! They are covered in skin too and, in time, can develop issues.

2. Limit sun exposure!

It’s important to know that the sun’s rays are not equally strong the entire day. However, they are especially dangerous between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. So, it’s best to avoid going out or tan around this time because that when your skin will be the most vulnerable to sunburns. However, if you choose to still go out during that time of day,  make sure to apply plenty of sunscreen and stick to wearing loose-fitting clothing.  Also, don’t forget to seek the shade and wear a hat too.

3. Sun tanning oil is not your friend

If you want to get a nice tan, you should, by all means, avoid applying sun tanning oil! Yes, it may offer you that bronzy glow, but it actually does more harm than good. The reason for this is that usually, it doesn’t contain a lot of SPF. So, you will get that beautiful tan, but the problems will pile up and reveal themselves a few years from now. The best alternative would be to search for tanning oil with high levels of SPF in it if you can’t go without it. But classic sunscreen is the most recommended, especially when the sun is at its full strength.
