Micro Link Hair Extensions Pros and Cons

September 7, 2017 by Katerine Simons

Also known as microbead or micro loop hair extensions, micro links are a type of extensions that are rapidly catching on thanks to how easy they are to put in and, of course, remove when you don’t want them anymore. Ladies rave about them online. However, what exactly are the downsides to this type of hair weaves? Let’s take a look at micro link hair extensions pros and cons and see.

The Pros

  1. You won’t need any kind of product or extra appendages to put them in. They come with a tiny loop at the end through which you pull your hair and voila! You’re done.
  2. Micro links are one of the few types of extensions out there that you can treat and dye as you would your normal hair. The reason is that the treatments will not affect the bonds.
  3. The result looks incredibly natural, seeing as the extensions blend in with the hair extremely well. Most women say people can’t even tell the difference between their natural hair and the extension.
  4. Styling becomes unbelievably easy when you have micro links. While you are never allowed to apply heat to other types because it might simply melt them, that’s not the case with these ones. Seeing as they are micro beads, they take heat very well.
  5. They stay in place for lengthy periods, which means you will not have to worry about changing them often and spending a lot of money at the salon.

We’ve reached the middle of our micro link hair extensions pros and cons list, and we thought you might also like to read Sew in Hair Extensions Pros and Cons.

The Cons

  1. The main disadvantage is the damage they cause if you do not attach them properly. You might not think much of their weight in the beginning, but you will notice that, when your hair is wet, they feel like a brick, pulling at your scalp. Which brings us to number two.
  2. The second disadvantage is linked to the first one. Because the danger of applying them poorly is so big, you cannot do it by yourself, at home. You need to find a very good stylist and, probably, an expensive one at that.
  3. It’s very difficult to sleep with these extensions on, as you can always feel the links.
  4. If they put in the links too close to your scalp, they will make it itchy and, sometimes even painful. That happens especially in the first month or so until your hair starts growing a bit and the links move further away from the head.
  5. Stylists always advise that you don’t take out the links on your own. It’s typically very painful, and it almost always results in you pulling out a lot of your own hair. Evidently, this will mean another appointment at the salon.

As you can see, the list of micro link hair extensions pros and cons is long. On the one hand, they blend very well with your natural hair. On the other hand, they make it very difficult to sleep. All that you can do is simply give them a try and see how you feel about them. Then write to us in the comment section below and let us know all about your experience!
