Most of us, at least anyone around my age of 22, probably started out curling their hair with a classic curling iron. Spring action clamp, metal barrel, and a cool tip. Back in the day, it seemed impossible to learn how to use it properly! Well, at least when I was 10 years old. I like to think I’ve come a long way since then! I remember back in the days when I loved trying out makeup and curling my hair. It was okay with my Mom even when we were little. That is, as long as we didn’t go out with our faces plastered in what we thought was gorgeous makeup. I remember how my sister went with the brightest everything. Blue eyeshadow, interesting cat eyeliner and lipstick that never went with anything else. Playing dress-up was our favorite past time and we put on endless fashion shows every time we were all together with our cousins. It was by far one of the best things about growing up in such a large family!

Nowadays I have moved on from the classic curling iron and mainly use a flat-iron and a curling wand. I usually try my best to create loose curls and waves that will give my hair a softer, more controlled look and the typically weird natural waves I normally have. But I have been thinking in recent years that maybe it’s time to get back to my roots and try to find the right curling iron for me. It would be great to achieve bouncier curls. I also love having a variety of options, rather than just my typical routine.

I gave this all some thought but never made a move to actually research to find the perfect curling iron. Life always takes over, and I hardly buy beauty tools for myself anymore. I just haven’t had the time or money. But with things starting to even out in my personal life now, I think it might be time! Especially since I have been researching the individual products on our list! The newest product I have been researching is the Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron. It is so similar to the ones I have used in the past, but it seems to be much better quality. Could this be the classic curling iron I’ve been looking for? Time to find out!

Things to Consider When Trying Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron

As usual, I wanted to give you a breakdown of the perks of this product. Just in case you like to know everything about a product before you buy it. My Mom always drilled it into me that this was the right way to shop, especially online. So here I am writing product reviews…and doing what I have always done in my spare time anyway!

So here is a breakdown of some aspects of the Hot Tools Curling Iron!

Technology: This is a great simple design that is similar to the ones I have used in the past. It has a 24k-gold plated metal barrel, a soft grip handle and spring action clamp with an extra long thumb grip and a fold-away safety stand. It has separate on/off switches, an 8ft professional swivel cord, and a Rheostat adjustable temperature control knob. It also has an extra long cool tip for more control while styling, which is fantastic for me.

Efficiency: This product heats up very quickly and is made with a 24k gold coated barrel that is designed to smooth your hair as it curls. This is a professional curling iron that a lot of licensed hair stylists use. The design of the tool is what makes it the most efficient and allows you to move quickly while styling your whole head of hair easily!

Type of Hair: Since this product has multiple temperature settings, you can easily set it for your hair type. You can use low-temperature settings for thin or fine hair, or higher settings for thicker or coarser hair like mine. The highest temperature setting is 430°F which is what I probably would use, but always with a heat protectant to protect it from damage!

Multiple Hair Benefits: Since this is a cheaper, but still professional grade product, it is a great value option for anyone interested in trying this classic style curling irons. Its gold plated barrel is designed to smooth your hair as it curls it. The gold plating also allows it to heat up evenly for optimal efficiency. Because of this, you can curl your hair without needing to go over it several times. This lessens the damage to your hair.

Curling Process: First off, always spritz your hair with your favorite heat protectant before you curl your hair. Then the best method I have found for this type of curling iron is to start by sectioning out your hair. It is usually good to take about an inch wide chunk at a time (this is optional) and starting close to your roots, but not too close! Then you with keep your clamp loose and spin the iron until there are still some tips showing. You don’t want to burn the ends, so it is always a good idea to leave some out. Then you can hold for about 6-8 seconds before opening the clamp slightly and gently pulling the iron down and out of the curl. You can then either leave the curl to cool or tug it down to lose it into more of a wave. Afterwards, you can spray with hairspray for extra hold if you think you will need it!

Design Flaw: I don’t think there are flaws with this design. I think the best tip for the use of this curling iron is practice. Some people were saying that this iron is a bit difficult to use because it is for “professionals.” I don’t agree with this; I think the only problem I have come across with a curling iron like this is when you get your hair caught in the clamp. So to avoid problems like this, you could always practice with a cool iron to get the motions down, without damaging your hair with the heat.

Who Should Buy This Curling Iron

This is a great quality curling iron with a very classic design. If you enjoy large curls or loose waves, this is a wonderful method of achieving just that! It will take some practice, but then again everything does! I have also noticed that everyone talks about how any look they create lasts all day, while other products create curls that only last about an hour or two. So if you have been struggling to find the perfect product that will give you lasting curls, this might be a good option! I don’t personally have this problem because my hair holds curls easily. But that can also be an issue when it curls my hair wrong and gets kinks or tight curls. Then I have a hard time fixing them because it holds so well. So I would want to practice and get the right method down before going out! But I love the classic style of this, and I would love to try it out. If you prefer curling irons over wands, this is a great option.

Who Shouldn’t Buy This Curling Iron

If you hate clamps and prefer wands, this is not for you. If you wrap your hair around this like you would with a wand, and avoid the clamp altogether, you will only get loose waves. So if you want curls, you need to use the clamp.

Also if you aren’t patient enough to practice and get a good method down, you should probably just stick with a wand as well. I know if you rush things with an iron like this, you might just get tangled and produce frizzy curls that you hate. I know a lot of people who are always in a rush, and that’s fine! I’m in a rush myself half of the time too. But rushing through the process with this curling iron might just end up taking you longer. Because then you will just have to fix the mess that you created!

Other than being partial to a wand, I don’t see many drawbacks to this product, it all comes down to personal preference more than anything!

Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron

This is a wonderful curling iron made with care for anyone who prefers a classic curling iron over a wand or even rolling curlers. It heats up quickly and evenly with plenty of temperature options that you can set with the knob. I think this is a good feature in case you accidentally bump buttons on a regular as I do. It is harder to turn the knob by accident than press a button on the handle. It also has a large barrel, an easy to control thumb grip, and an extra long cool tip. I love a good cool tip on a curling iron because I put it to use when I use them, and I appreciate being able to avoid burning my fingers by accident!

It also comes with a few replacement springs, in case yours break or wear out, and a one-year warranty in case anything else might break or wear out.

    • This item is very efficient if you are in a rush and hate waiting for your iron to heat up for you to get started. This curling iron heats up quickly and evenly so you won’t have to re-curl the same section more than once. This will reduce the damage you might cause to your hair.
    • Make sure you learn to use it properly for the best results! If you don’t know your product, how long to let it touch your hair or the best way to use it, you run the possibility of ruining your hair. People have actually burned their hair right off with this product. But this is not because of the product, but because of misuse. You can avoid that!
    • This product also has a separate on/off switch which is a great feature in my opinion. I tend to bump the buttons on my curling wand all the time because they are right on the handle. So I sometimes turn it off by accident while I’m using it. It’s probably the one thing I don’t like the curling wand I already own.
    • It also has a knob for temperature on the end of the handle. This will also keep you from keeping you from changing the temperature while you are using the curling iron.

    Conclusion

    Overall I’d say this is the type of product I am interested in.​ I haven’t used a normal curling iron in a few years. Most of the ones we had were my sisters, and she moved out awhile ago when she got married. Now that I’m married and move out too, it would be fun to experiment with a curling iron again after so long! I never truly got the hang of it. I just thought that my curling wand created a better look. Unfortunately, I got so used to using that and never tried more products or sizes, and therefore I haven’t tried too many different styles in recent years. I think it’s time to change that!

    If I was going to try a new curling iron the Hot Tools Professional, Spring Curling Iron is probably on the top of my list right now. I like that it is pretty similar to the ones I’ve used in the past and that it has a really simple setup that will allow me to avoid past mistakes. I won’t burn myself, turn the iron on and off by accident, or get my hair tangled. I also like the 24k gold coating on the metal parts of this product. It is supposed to help smooth your curls and heats evenly. I like the fact that this will help create smoother, frizz-free curls. That, along with the long cord, cool tip, extra long thumb grip, and the soft grip handle, I think that I could use this product comfortably.
