Sick of having frizzy or dry hair? Then it may be time to invest in a quality leave in conditioner. Today we are reviewing a product just like that, the Aussie Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner.

View on Amazon.com >

Aussie Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner protects against hair damage.  It’s good for compromised hair.  This is a leave-in conditioner that contains Australian silk protein.  The spray bottle makes it easy to apply.

Things to Consider When Trying Aussie Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner

Consider what type of conditioner you may want for your hair.  If you already have naturally healthy and moist hair, you may not need this conditioner.

Sometimes hair can become heavy and weighed down with unnecessary products.

Also, consider how much you are willing to spend on conditioner.

This is a very low priced hair product.

The Formula

The ingredient list is worth examining because it tells us quite a bit about how this product works.

The current US ingredient list begins with water and jojoba seed oil, followed by fragrance, preservatives and conditioning ingredients. It also contains amodimethicone and polyquaternium-11.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a popular cosmetic ingredient for hair because it can help provide a softer, smoother feel.

It’s worth remembering, though, that having jojoba oil in a formula doesn’t automatically mean the product is deeply repairing damaged hair.

I’d think of it as contributing to the conditioning and cosmetic benefits rather than expecting it to magically reverse split ends.

Amodimethicone

Amodimethicone is a type of silicone commonly used in haircare products.

Silicones can be particularly useful in conditioners because they can help hair feel smoother, reduce friction and improve manageability.

And if you’ve ever struggled to brush through a mass of wet, tangled hair, you’ll appreciate how useful that can be.

Polyquaternium-11

This is another conditioning ingredient that helps contribute to the feel and performance of the product.

Together, these ingredients make sense for a leave-in product designed primarily around smoothness and manageability.

How Does It Feel on the Hair?

This is where I think Aussie Hair Insurance has a particularly strong selling point.

It’s a spray, so you can distribute a relatively small amount through the lengths and ends without drowning your hair in conditioner.

That’s especially useful if your hair is fine or easily weighed down.

I’d start conservatively, particularly if you have fine hair.

A few sprays through damp lengths may be enough. You can always add another light mist, whereas applying too much product can leave hair feeling coated.

If your hair is thick, coarse, curly or particularly dry, you may find that you need a more generous application.

Does It Help With Frizz?

Yes, this is one of the areas where I’d expect the product to perform well.

Amodimethicone and conditioning polymers can make the hair surface feel smoother, while the conditioning properties of the formula can help make frizzy hair look more polished.

Aussie specifically markets Hair Insurance for taming frizz and smoothing the hair.

However, I’d distinguish between temporarily smoothing frizz and actually changing the underlying condition of the hair.

It’s a cosmetic haircare product.

It can help your hair look and feel smoother, but it isn’t going to permanently repair damaged cuticles or eliminate frizz forever.

Is It Good for Dry Hair?

I think it can be useful for dry hair, particularly if dryness is accompanied by roughness and tangling.

The formula combines conditioning ingredients with jojoba oil, so it makes sense as a product for adding softness and improving manageability.

But if your hair is extremely dry, bleached or chemically damaged, I wouldn’t rely on Hair Insurance alone.

I’d use it as one step in a more comprehensive routine involving a good rinse-out conditioner and occasional deep-conditioning treatment.

Think of Hair Insurance as the finishing touch, rather than your entire damaged-hair rescue plan.

Is It Good for Curly Hair?

Aussie says that Hair Insurance can be used as a leave-in conditioner for curly hair as well as other hair types.

That makes it worth considering if your curls tend to become dry or tangled.

The spray format also means you can distribute the product lightly without necessarily weighing your curls down with a thick cream.

That said, very curly or coily hair may need something richer.

If your curls are extremely dry, I’d probably pair a lightweight spray such as this with a curl cream or richer leave-in product rather than expecting it to provide all the moisture and definition you need.

Does It Help Detangle Hair?

This is one of the reasons I think leave-in conditioners are so useful.

When hair is wet, it’s particularly vulnerable to stretching and mechanical damage. Anything that makes the comb or brush glide through more easily can make the whole process much less stressful for your hair.

Aussie’s own customer reviews include people describing the product as helping with detangling and making brushing easier.

Of course, customer reviews are personal experiences rather than scientific evidence, but they do fit with what I’d expect from a conditioning spray containing smoothing and conditioning ingredients.

For very tangled hair, I’d still start at the ends and gently work upwards rather than dragging a brush from roots to ends.

What Does It Smell Like?

If you know Aussie products, you’ll probably recognise the brand’s approach to fragrance.

Aussie describes Hair Insurance as having a juicy citrus scent, while its product page also describes the fragrance as citrus, florals and musk.

Personally, I think fragrance can make a leave-in conditioner much more enjoyable to use.

Unlike a rinse-out conditioner, you’re going to be wearing the scent around for a while.

If you don’t enjoy fragranced hair products, however, this is something to consider before buying.

Will It Make Fine Hair Greasy?

This is where I’d be slightly careful.

Although it’s marketed as suitable for all hair types, fine hair can be very sensitive to leave-in products.

Too much of almost any conditioning spray can make fine hair look limp or slightly greasy.

My approach would be to spray it mainly through the mid-lengths and ends rather than directly onto the roots.

I’d also start with less than you think you need.

If your hair feels soft and manageable after a couple of sprays, stop there!

You don’t get extra points for using half the bottle.

What About Thick or Coarse Hair?

This is where I think the product could be particularly appealing.

Thicker or coarser hair often benefits from additional conditioning because it can be harder to detangle and more prone to dryness and frizz.

You may find that you need more product than someone with fine hair.

I’d apply it section by section, concentrating on the lengths and ends.

If your hair is extremely coarse, dry or curly, though, you might prefer a richer leave-in cream or milk.

Can You Use It on Dry Hair?

Aussie’s official instructions say to spray Hair Insurance onto damp hair and leave it in.

That’s the method I’d recommend following.

However, a very light mist can sometimes be useful for refreshing dry, frizzy lengths between washes.

I’d be cautious about doing this repeatedly, though, because layering leave-in products day after day can eventually create buildup.

If your hair starts feeling coated rather than soft, it’s probably time for a thorough wash.

Is It a Heat Protectant?

This is an important distinction.

I’d not automatically treat Aussie Hair Insurance as your dedicated heat-protection product simply because it is marketed around hair protection.

The current product page focuses on softness, smoothness, manageability and frizz control rather than presenting it primarily as a heat-protection spray.

If you’re regularly using a hairdryer, straighteners or curling tools, I’d use a dedicated heat-protectant product that specifically states the level of heat protection it provides.

That’s one area where I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Does It Repair Split Ends?

No leave-in conditioner can permanently fuse a genuinely split hair shaft back together.

What products like Hair Insurance can do is temporarily smooth the appearance and feel of damaged ends, helping hair look healthier and reducing roughness.

If your ends are badly split, the only permanent solution is trimming them.

A leave-in conditioner can then help the remaining hair feel smoother and make it easier to maintain.

Is Aussie Hair Insurance Cruelty-Free?

Aussie states on its current product page that the brand is PETA certified cruelty-free.

That’s useful information if cruelty-free beauty is important to you.

As always, I’d check the manufacturer’s current information if this is a deciding factor for your purchase, as product ranges and certifications can change.

Pros and Cons

What I Like

Lightweight spray format: It’s easy to distribute through the hair without applying a thick cream.

Good for detangling: The conditioning formula makes sense for helping hair feel more manageable.

Frizz control: The smoothing ingredients can help give hair a more polished appearance.

Jojoba oil: A nice addition for a softer hair feel.

Suitable for different hair types: Aussie says it can be used on all hair types, including curly hair.

Pleasant fragrance: If you enjoy scented hair products, the citrus-led fragrance is a nice bonus.

What I Don’t Like

May be too light for very dry hair: Extremely thirsty hair may need a richer leave-in treatment.

Fine hair needs restraint: Spraying too much can potentially make fine hair look flat or coated.

Contains fragrance: Not ideal if you prefer fragrance-free haircare.

Not a miracle repair treatment: It can improve the feel and appearance of hair but won’t reverse serious structural damage or permanently fix split ends.

Don’t assume it’s a dedicated heat protectant: I’d use a separate heat-protection product when using hot styling tools.

Social Proof

I’ve scoured the internet and also read through the Amazon reviews for Aussie Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner.  I’ll share some of the most popular feedback here.

“I’ve always loved this brand and this conditioner is just as good. The spray covers a good amount of hair in one spray and it leaves your hair smelling good and very soft. I used it the other day before curling my hair and it never weighed it down and didn’t interfere with the way my hair styled. I’ve found some leave ins will make my hair not curl so this is a new product I will continue to use.”

“Bought this for my granddaughter who has long constantly tangled hair. This is the best detangler I have ever purchased and I have purchased very expensive name brand products that don’t work half as well. It smells good too. Three or four sprays on dry tangled hair and her hair comes out silky and shiny. A few sprays on just washed damp hair and tangles come out easy too. Love this stuff. I won’t be buying anything else from now on! I would definitely recommend. Love the price too.”

Conclusion

Aussie Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner is especially good for compromised hair.

It protects against hair damage while repairing what is already damaged.

It is a leave-in conditioner that contains Australian silk protein.

The spray bottle makes it easy to apply.

The price is very low, so if you are looking for a bargain priced hair conditioner, this is it.

I hope my review of the Aussie Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner can help you decide if this is the leave in conditioner for you!
