Nowadays, people are turning more to vegan diets every day. They believe that it is a healthier option for their body and to an extent, they are right. Please keep in mind that I am not telling you that a vegan diet is the only way to a clear skin, however, eating fresh fruit and vegetables daily is the key to a clear, healthy-looking skin.
Vegans and vegetarians tend to eat more fruit and vegetables than carnivores. This is great news for your skin! A plant-based diet is typically low in fat and you tend to avoid the pore-clogging saturated fats that are found in animal products.
Fruit and vegetables are very high in antioxidants which helps your skin to fight off free radicals. Free radicals damage your skin and cause premature ageing, age spots and can cause pigmentation.
Vitamin C and E:

These vitamins are very powerful antioxidants that fight off the free radicals. They help prevent wrinkles, brown spots and overall, promote a youthful looking skin. Nuts and seeds are your main source of Vitamin E. In winter, it is always important to up your dose of Vitamin E to ensure that your skin stays hydrated and moisturised for longer.
Vitamin C can be found in all your fruit. Grab a hand full of berries to ensure that you are getting enough antioxidants in your diet and make sure that you increase your Vitamin C intake in winter to boost your immune system. You do not want to get sick.
Fibre:
The high fibre diet that vegans have are essential for a glowing, toxin-free skin. The fibre from produce and your whole grains ensure that you have a healthy glowing skin by flushing out all the toxins in your skin. Fibre does not only ensure that you have a healthy digestive system but it also makes sure that the toxins in your skin gets flushed as well.
A toxic skin begins to look dull, older than it should and very dry.
Zinc:
There was an article that was recently written in the Health Magazine. The article stated that the [easyazon_link identifier=”B002FH90Q6″ locale=”US” tag=”beautifu0f2-20″]Zinc[/easyazon_link] found in beans help get rid of pimples as well as decreases inflammation in the skin and the redness that occurs around a pimple.
For your vegan diet, your protein sources are beans, nuts and tofu. This is key to a breakout free skin.
We all know that dairy products are very often contributing factors to Acne breakouts. Healthy unsaturated fats such as Olive oil and Avocados, help keep your skin hydrated as well as helps to keep your cell membranes strong and supple. Try cooking your veggies in a small amount of olive oil and you will see the difference in your skin within in a few weeks.
Please keep in mind that unsaturated fats need to be mixed with a protein to ensure that you are getting all the vitamins and minerals you need for a balanced diet.
What does Elle have to say?
Recently, a lady by the name of Elle became a vegetarian and this is what she has to say about her skin: ‘I have been a vegan for a little over three weeks and my father and boyfriend could not believe the change in my skin. It’s absolutely luminous and smoother than when I was even a child I have never seen results like this from anything else I’ve ever tried. I only wash my face with cold water and the rest is my diet! I cannot urge you enough to give this a try and I also have not once craved ANY animal food products whatsoever. Meats cheeses fish etc… it’s like I was never meant to eat these things anyway. If you have bad skin, listen to me and give this a chance.’
Please always remember that a diet is one of the factors you need to keep balanced to ensure that your skin stays healthy and radiant throughout your life.
Other factors that keep your skin looking healthy and radiant:
- Exercise: it is very important that you exercise and keep your heart pumping. Exercise helps to ensure that blood flows to all your organs including your skin. You also sweat to help your body get rid of unwanted toxins. This will help keep your skin clear and Acne free.
- Skincare routine: as a skin care therapist, I find it extremely important to have a skincare routine. You need to cleanse your skin daily to ensure that pollution and other germs in the air do not stick on your skin and cause skin conditions and problems later on in life.
- SPF factor: you need to protect your skin from the sun every single day. If you are going to be in the sun for longer than 40 minutes, you need to make sure that you are wearing sun protection.
- Drink plenty of water: dehydrating your body will dehydrate your skin. This will cause fine lines and wrinkles all over your body and you will begin to age sooner than you should. You need to make sure that you are getting plenty of water daily. At least 1 and a half litres per day.
- Sleep and stress levels: you need to sleep at night to ensure that you do not develop bags under your eyes. Your stress levels will cause you to age prematurely. Do something you love at least once a day to keep your stress levels low and you need to get into a healthy sleep pattern.
Vegan diets are astonishing for a clear, healthy-looking skin. You can also get their clear, healthy skin by increasing your veg and fruits and pass on the dairy and meat products once in a while. This is a recipe for clear, radiant, healthy looking skin that glows from the inside and out.
