Getting the perfect streak free manicure is about as impossible as living on Mars. However, like with any other ambitious goal, we are working tirelessly to come up with a way to do it. We are right now close to finding a way to survive on the Red Planet, but we are closer to finally getting that perfect manicure everyone wishes for. Let’s face it, streaky nails are a nightmare. Staying all day in the office, typing away on your computer? You cannot help but look at those streaks on your nails. Groceries? Streaky nails. Walking the dog? Those streaks again! It’s simply impossible to not acknowledge them everywhere you go, no matter what you do.
So, because we are so stressed out about this issue, we turned to an expert that most certainly knows a thing or two about streak free manicure. Meet Nia Cooper, a celebrity and editorial fashion manicurist. She was kind enough to share some manicure tips and trick with us. And we are sharing them with you! She has some interesting but easy steps that you can follow to get rid of those abominable streaky nails. Here you go!
Step 1: Clean nails
According to Cooper, you simply cannot begin your manicure with dirty nails that are full of residue. You need a clean, smooth canvas to begin your work, right? So, carefully shape your nails and smooth them out. After that, simply wash your hands with cold water and use some antibacterial soap. Our expert recommends using a special manicure brush to remove any excess oil and debris from filling your nails. You can find this type of brush at almost every beauty store. Wait for your hands to completely dry and then begin the manicure process.
Step 2: Base is everything
When we asked Nia Cooper about the best base possible, she revealed her most favorite one. It’s the essie Ridge Filling Base Coat. As an alternative, you can also try the OPI Ridge Filler Base Coat. The way you apply it is key here. Cooper says to apply one thin coat and then wait for two minutes until it’s completely dry. Only then you are allowed to move to the next step.
Step 3: The 3-stroke method
Nia Cooper advises us to apply the colored nail polish using the famous “3-stroke method.” You need to apply one coat from the center of your nail. Then, apply another one side to side. Finally, cover the free edge of the nail, meaning that you need to swipe the brush over the tip of your nail. Another important thing is to try to use as little nail polish as possible. It’s very important to avoid dipping twice. For this, you need to be sure that you get enough color on the brush to cover what you need to. Let the nails dry for two minutes in-between coats.
Step 4: Voila!
The final touch is to apply the top coat using the same “3-stroke method.” Cooper says that you need to wait for five minutes before applying cuticle oil or dryer drops or spray.
