However, apart from those, it’s important to be aware of the fact that certain foods that are masquerading as low-fat or healthy are not really what they seem. They do not help you lose weight more swiftly, on the contrary. Some of these foods might be even more “non-diet” than you think. So, in order to offer you a list of some foods not to eat while dieting, we have asked expert dietician Chelsey Amer for some tips.
You might be shocked to see how many foods are actually bad for you if you are trying to lose weight, even if the general idea is that they are good. There are hidden enemies for your weight everywhere, this is why you need to be extra careful and listen to expert advice. So, here are some foods that you should no eat by any means while you’re on a diet. Here we go!
1. Soy sauce
Soy sauce has become extremely popular, especially with the rise in popularity that Asian cuisine has recently seen. Noodles and sushi taste especially amazing if you add a bit of soy sauce into the mix. However, you should know that while being low in calories, soy sauce is extremely high on sodium, Amer says. This increases your risk of hypertension and heart disease while also leaving you feeing bloated. And while there are low-sodium soy sauces on the market, they are not much different than regular ones. After all, soy sauce is meant to be salty. This is why you should consume it sparingly.
2. Alcohol
If you are on a diet, you should already know that drinking alcohol is the way to go. Amer says that an average wine drinker consumes up to 2,000 extra calories each month. It’s not a crime to drink one glass of wine once per week. However, when cumulated, these calories count. According to experts, alcohol is the first thing that our bodies burn before anything else. So, it’s doing that, you will not burn any fat, preventing you to lose weight, even if you are on a diet.
3. Microwave popcorn
The Environmental Protection Agency warns that the chemicals that the bags of popcorn contain increase the risk of infertility and thyroid issues. It’s true that popcorn is low on calories, but not coming from these microwave bags that are full of unhealthy chemicals and additives. Avoid eating those by any means even if you are not on a diet!
4. Sugar-free products
Everyone who is on a diet think that drinking a sugar-free beverage will not affect their diet. And while they are low on calories, they do contain many other sugar alternatives that are dangerous for your health. They raise your insulin level and do not help you with your diet, Amer says.
