How to Obtain Matte Nails Without Specialized Polish

September 20, 2016 by Jennifer Scott

Matte nails are trendy these days. To obtain a glossy finish you need to use a matte nail polish. However, this product is quite expensive, and not everyone can afford it. The good news is you can make your own non-shiny polish, at home. If you want to achieve a sophisticated look, all you have to do is to follow our recommendations, described below.

Main Easy Ways to Obtain Matte Nails

Corn Flour

Having matte nails without specialized polish is easier than you think. All you need is some corn flour. First, add some regular nail polish and corn flour in a small container. Combine them together by mixing equal parts of these two ingredients. Make sure to add enough of these elements so that they will cover two coats on your nails. Before applying the polish on your nails, clean the brush by using a nail polish remover.

Steam

This is probably one of the easiest ways to obtain matte nails with homemade polish. Apply normal polish as you usually do. Heat some water in a small or medium pan. When it starts to steam, place your fingers above it and wait for a couple of seconds. Make sure the steam reaches all your nails. Steam will create a matte look. Furthermore, it won’t affect or damage the color coverage.

Eyeshadow

Whenever you want to give that extra something to your nail color, you can prepare your own non-shiny top coat. Take some eyeshadow that you don’t need anymore and crack it. You can do this with the hard part of a makeup brush. When it becomes powder, you can pour it into a top coat polish bottle. Shake it well until it is completely mixed. Then apply the combination on your nails, using the same procedure as in the case of a regular manicure. You will obtain and edgy and stylish look.

Other Powders

If you don’t want to use an eyeshadow, there are other elements that have the same results such as baking powder, fine flour, and even cornstarch. Pour small amounts of powder into a small dish. Then, add some drops of nail polish and mix it together with the powder. Use equal amounts of these both ingredients. Even though the results can be thicker than a normal nail polish, it should still be spreadable. Don’t panic if it doesn’t look matte while it is wet. It will have a non-shiny look once it gets dry.

Putting It All Together

Matte nails are the ultimate manicure trend. It will give you a sophisticated and stylish look. The good news is you don’t have to spend a lot of money on specialized nail polish. You can prepare your own colors at home. If you follow our tips and recommendations, your nails will look amazing. To make sure your manicure lasts longer, you should apply two coats instead of one.
