Do you have dry and damaged nails? A lot of people see nails in magazine ads that are absolutely perfect and beautiful and think that can never be them. But actually – there are things you can do, to make sure that you have healthy nails. Here are the do’s and don’ts.
Whenever possible, try to keep your nails dry as well as clean. If your hands are constantly wet or near chemicals and grime that make them constantly moist and dirty, it’s a breeding ground for bacteria to grow on your nails.
Keep them well groomed. You need to have a good manicure kit with sharp scissors and nail clips so that you can ensure that you’re getting a good cut when trimming them. You want to have your nails cut straight across, but with rounded tips.
Try to be diligent about applying moisturizer to your hands. When you are applying lotion you’re keeping your skin nourished, which is important. When you’re using lotion, adding it and rubbing it into your nails and cuticles is an important part of the task.
What you don’t want to do is pick the cuticles or skin around your nails, or bite them. These are bad habits that can really be damaging to your nail beds. While you may think that a small cut isn’t a big deal, it can actually become an issue, as it allows bacteria or fungus to get into your nails and infect them.
Have you noticed that there’s a problem with your nails lately? Don’t ignore any problems you see with your nails, if it doesn’t clear up on its own. Seeing a doctor, or even better a dermatologist will make sure that the problem gets solved quickly.
Do you find that you have brittle or weak nails? Then trying to add a protective layer – for example a nail hardener product – will give your nails an extra level of protection so that they’re stronger. This also gives them time to really grow and repair themselves.
If you notice that you have a hangnail, fight the urge to rip it off in the heat of the moment. This usually only makes things worse! Find a pair of nail clippers and gently remove the hangnail to avoid any ripping or further damage to your nails.
And lastly, speak to your doctor or dermatologist about the benefits you’d get out of using a biotin product. Biotin is actually a supplement with nutrition that is formulated to help your nails grow stronger and healthier. This is especially good for those with weaker fingernails that tend to break easily.
By taking these do’s and don’t to heart, you should be able to see big progress in the health and appearance of your nails. While it will definitely take some time to see huge results – so be patient – if you are committed to improving the health of your nails, start to follow these tips and get your most beautiful nails ever!
