Learn How to Do Cat Eye Nails for a Stunning Manicure

May 25, 2018 by Jennifer Scott

Manicure lovers, behold! A new Instagrammable nail trend is upon us, and yes, it has to do with those cute and fluffy creatures we call cats. But it may not be what you think. It does not have anything in common with a cat eye, for example. It does not mimic that feline, mysterious look. Actually, the cat eye nail trend draws inspiration from the actual eyes of a cat and the way they reflect the light. This beautiful nail design is done through a new and interesting technique, and it mimics the mysteriousness and mystical aura of a feline’s look. Here are our tips on how to do cat eye nails and gather a following on Instagram thanks to them.

The cat eye manicure is meant to trick the eye into thinking that it changes as you move your fingers. In fact, it doesn’t, but the light falling on that dramatic glimmer which is right in the center of the nail will offer this gorgeous effect. It’s exactly the same thing that you see when light falls on your furry pet’s pupils. It seems that cats, apart from being the stars of the internet, also provide us with inspiration for other things too. Where would we be without them?

The mysterious cat eye nails

What you should know from the get-go, if you want to recreate this special look yourself, is that you won’t be able to do it with just any classic nail polish. It’s actually a bit trickier than that. You should first search for a special kind of glossy nail top coat with a formula that contains specks of metallic glitter. There is a reason why the top coat needs to have metal in it. And it’s because, to create the cat eye effect, you will also need a magnet.

This is not a joke, and if you think about it, it actually makes perfect sense. You will need to apply this special top coat on your usual nail polish first. Then, you will have to take the magnet and hold it above the nail. Move it in any direction you want, depending on the style you want to create. However, if you want to get a real cat eye effect, you should be careful to move all of these metallic specks to one side, or in the middle. This will create that mysterious slash that will reflect the light, just like a cat’s real eye.

Once you’ve got a grasp of the technique, you can play around with it. Create a single straight line down the middle or apply the small magnet at an angle. This will create a more celestial effect. It’s all about your preferences at this point. We can guarantee that your manicure will look purrfect, pun absolutely intended!

Summing it all up
