To have oily skin is both a curse and a blessing. Women with oily skin feel the curse mostly in their teenage and young years, as oily skin is more prone to acne, blackheads, and a rather unpleasant look. On the other hand, the 50-years old you will feel blessed because oily skin ages significantly slower than dry skin. Are there any methods on how to tell if you have oily skin? Fortunately, there are plenty of easy tricks to employ!
1. The Skin Type Paper Test
Wash your face and gently pat it dry with a clean, soft towel. Avoid touching it for at least an hour while you stay inside. After an hour, take a large tissue and press in against all your areas of the face. If you see oil spots on the fabric – especially on the forehead, nose, and chin – you have oily skin.
2. Examine Your T-Zone Carefully
The T-Zone is what we described above: the face area containing your forehead, nose, and chin. Take a good mirror and inspect it. Enlarged and clogged pores are a clear indicator of an oily skin; therefore, it is time to consider what type of face skin care products and methods you will need.
3. Pay Attention to How You Feel Your Face During the Day
Having greasy T-Zone does not necessarily mean your entire face is oily. You can also have combination skin, which requires slightly different interventions. So in order to cover all variables, spend a full day being aware of how your skin feels. If you feel your T-Zone getting oilier by the minute, but your cheek flaky and dry, you have combination skin.
4. At the End of the Day, Check the Way your Face Looks
Now that you spent a normal day making mental notes about how your skin feels, it is time to look at it. Oily skin presents a visible production of sebum. Your face will shine, and you will spot oil accumulations (exclusive to our T-Zone or present on your cheek, temples, neck, and so on).
5. Make Sure You Check up Your Makeup
Women with oily skin have a hard time to keep their makeup in place. After a busy day, many experience something called “cake-face” – everything is smudged and smeared. There are plenty of products and methods to keep your makeup on even if you have oily skin, but you need a lot of work.
6. Go to Sleep with a Clean Face, Check It Out First Thing in the Morning
One of the quickest methods on how to tell if you have oily skin is to go to sleep with a cleansed face and wake up with a breakout – especially in summer. If you sweat during sleep, you are likely to wake up with a new pimple or a new blackhead.
