How to Cure Chapped Lips – 13 Remedies

July 17, 2017 by Jennifer Scott

All girls out there need to know how to cure chapped lips since it’s summer time when the wind, the sun, and the salt water can affect your lips. Many women try to use huge amounts of lip balm to combat dried and chapped lips. However, you should know that this is not the only option. There are a lot of many other remedies which could help.

How to cure chapped lips

Almond oil

Before you use a cleanser for your face, make sure you apply pure almond oil or almond oil lip balm on your lips. The benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can dry your lips, disrupting the pH balance. Almond oil is a hypoallergenic moisturizer which can really help you get rid of chapped lips.

Humidifier

During the night, it is best if you turn on a humidifier to make sure your skin and lips remain hydrated. Do not allow the air in your room to become dry because it can affect your skin.

Cucumber

If you have chapped lips, try to use some thin slices of cucumber and place them on your lips. Leave it on for at least five minutes. Therefore, your lips will be hydrated and soft.

Exfoliate

Make sure you regularly use a lip exfoliator. However, if you are a fan of DIY products, you can do your own exfoliator using a mixture of honey and sugar. Use a clean toothbrush to rub the paste back and forth onto your lips.

Do not lick your lips

We tend to believe that licking our lips will help us maintain then hydrated. This is very wrong! Our saliva contains acids which can irritate the lips since the skin there is so sensitive. Every time you lick your lips, you are actually removing the natural oils that protect your lips.

Sunscreen

If you are going to the beach or you are just going out in the sun during summer, make sure you apply sunscreen to prevent your lips from drying out.

Shea butter

Apply some shea butter onto your lips to moisturize and nourish them. You will obtain a subtle shine and a silky smooth finish.

Beeswax

Beeswax is very useful in preventing dehydration. So if you are going out in the sun, make sure you apply this first. It will seal in moisture, and your lips will look nice and smooth.

Lipstick

Make sure your lipsticks contain at least one of these ingredients to keep your lips hydrated: shea butter, macadamia oil or vitamin E.

Drink water

If you hydrate from the inside, your skin and lips will be hydrated too.

Lip conditioner

Whenever you choose to wear a matte lipstick, remember to apply a lips conditioner first to maintain your lips moisturized. Matte lip colors are very trendy this year, so make sure you hydrate your lips really well before using such a lipstick.

Petroleum jelly

This is the oldest trick out there, helping you maintain your lips moisturized all the time.

Aloe vera

Peel off an aloe vera leaf and rub it on your lips. Therefore, you will have hydrated lips, healing the small cuts you get when your lips are very dry.

Wrapping up

Knowing how to cure chapped lips is important to maintain your lips smooth and nourished. Make sure you use appropriate products to prevent them from drying out. Do not peel off your dried lips because that may cause bleeding. Use a lip exfoliator and drink plenty of water.
