When it comes to your wedding, you want everything to be perfect. Down to the last little hair. Remember, you will have to look at those pictures forever! So when it comes to wedding updos, I have a few ideas.
It doesn’t matter what length your hair is; you can pull off some stunning styles. It can be messy, neat, up, down, twisted or braided. Whatever you have envisioned can be pulled off with a little hairspray and a bunch of bobby pins!
I didn’t have a good idea of what wedding hairstyle I wanted. Then again, I’m not a very picky person. I knew it needed to be an updo and out of my way. I also wanted to be sure it would hold up for the entire day. I ended up getting the front braided back and curls that were pinned up in the back. Finished off with a few loose curls to frame my face. It was lovely, and it stayed up perfectly! But when you choose your wedding hairstyle, you should pick something you adore. That is why I wanted to give you a few suggestions to play around with for your big day!
Tips for Wedding Updos
For the sake of this post, I wanted to focus on wedding updos specifically. They are the best wedding style for most people. I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with having your hair down, but updos have a little more security. So if you want your hair to look the same for the whole day, an updo is probably your best option.
There is so much planning that goes into a wedding. You don’t want to stress about your hair too. So I have a few tips from my experience that you might find helpful.
- Get to know your hair and consider all the possibilities. What could the wedding weather be like? How do you think it will affect your hair? Plan according to that. For instance, my wedding was at the beginning of September. We were still having some hot days, and I wasn’t sure whether I needed to worry. So I planned for an updo because I was worried about frizz, humidity, rain, and wind. Luckily it was a beautiful day. But I was glad to be prepared for anything just in case.
- Use curling cream or balm to smooth those curls. If you have a hairstylist in mind, they will probably already have a product in mind already.
- If you are doing your hair yourself, you should consider using hot rollers rather than a curling iron. They allow for a softer and more natural curl. Plus, you won’t have to worry about kinks as much.
- Keep extra bobby pins on hand somewhere. That way any pieces that end up falling out can easily be fixed.
- Use a light hold hairspray, rather than a strong hold hairspray. You don’t want to look crusty after all! The hairstyle should stay put on its own. The hairspray is only for a little extra help with flyaways.
- Consider whether you will be wearing a veil and if it will sit in the right place in your chosen hairstyle. It’s perfectly fine if you aren’t wearing a veil. Other hair accessories can be a fun addition to wedding updos, and they may get covered up by a veil. So it’s pretty typical for brides to choose one or the other.
- Check out your hair hairstyle from all angles, so you know that you like it.
- Wash your hair the day before the trial run and the wedding. Make it as easy as possible to make your hair look brilliant. You will want to replicate the whole process.
Wedding Updos for Short Hair
It can admittedly be a little more complicated to get short hair into a full updo. It depends on the length and texture of the hair. But it is possible! The real trick is to curl or braid the hair and tuck in the ends. It will look like a perfect updo before you know it.
I can understand if you aren’t so sure this is going to work for you. Sometimes your hair is just too short, or you simply don’t want to take the risk. That’s fine because half updos for weddings are gorgeous as well! Half updos are a little easier to control, and you can add cute accessories to make them look more bridal.
Wedding Updos for Medium Length Hair
Once you have a medium length hair, the possibilities are pretty endless. You could try any style, and it will look great. It makes things a little easier for your hair stylist as well because your hair will be more manageable to play around with!
If you have very thin hair, you could try a messy updo. It will be a little easier to add volume and texture if it doesn’t have to be perfect. Volume is the key when doing wedding updos for thin hair! You could also look into hair extensions to add a little more thickness and length to your hair. But I would suggest getting comfortable with them before the wedding day. That way you can practice putting your hair up and making sure it doesn’t look like you have extensions.
Wedding Updos for Long Hair
There are great updo hairstyles you could try with long hair. You could also do some elegant half updos but keep the length on the bottom. Braided updos are probably my favorite for long hair because you can do loose braids without having them fall apart or look messy.
Black hair updos for weddings are stunning and elegant. Black hair is so striking against a white dress. Especially if you have natural hair. When you have natural hair, you can get such a unique style. You could relax or straighten natural hair to get a typical bridal updo. But I don’t even know why you would want to when there are so many incredible wedding hairstyles you can try by twisting or braiding natural hair.
Wedding Updos for Bridesmaids
Many brides like to pinpoint every detail of their wedding. They want everything to match or coordinate perfectly. I can’t blame them, even though I was not one of those brides. But then again, I gave myself about six months to plan my wedding so I could hardly be particular about the significant details, let alone the small ones!
Choosing your bridesmaids hairstyles can be difficult. Not everyone has the same length, type of hair or even the same color. So it can be hard to get them to match up. So my advice for bridesmaids hair is to pick whether you want to let them choose what style they want. It all depends on whether you want their hair up or down. Just pick something that could work for the most people. Maybe you even want to let them choose their hairstyle and get them matching hair accessories instead.
The possibilities of bridesmaid hairstyles are just as endless as any bridal updo. In fact, they could choose a bridal hairstyle, and no one would know the difference. But you don’t want the bridesmaids to match the bride too much. It’s nice to have some contrast to set the bride apart!
Conclusion
Bridal updos are full of endless possibilities. The key is figuring out what you want, what will work for you and make sure to find the right person to do it for you. Always do a test run or two before the big day to make any necessary changes that you need. Either way, don’t stress out, it is just hair and if you’re going to look so stunning when you are all done up and in your dress. The incredible hairstyle you choose will just be a bonus!
