Learn How to Make Hair Color Last Longer in 5 Simple Ways

February 23, 2018 by Jennifer Scott

Every woman holds very dear that magical moment when she exits a hair salon and the color of her hair is perfect. You feel like you can do anything, conquer every problem and even win the lottery because you look so good. However, a few weeks later disaster strikes. Shampooing begins making its effects seen. In the end, everything you’re left with is a ghostly color of your once beautiful hair. One thing is certain, it does not have to be like that anymore! The fate of your hair’s color is in YOUR hands! This is the reason why we have decided to offer you some tips on how to make hair color last longer. It’s a lot easier than you might think and not at all expensive. You only need a little bit of care and perseverance. Let’s see!

1.      Add a filter, but not an Instagram one!

We all love to add filters on our precious Instagram photos. And it’s true that sometimes, they can help with your hair color too. However, this is not the filter we are talking about. You can try installing a filter in your shower or ask someone to do it for you. Mineral sediments and your hair color do not mix well and it’s important for them to disappear from your life. They are easy to find and some more expensive models can even remove chlorine, heavy metals and soap buildup before letting the water touch your hair.

2.      The treasures in your pantry

Once in a while it’s a good idea to raid the pantry. If you’re not a big fan of cooking, you might at least find something useful for your hair in there. Like apple cider vinegar, for example. It’s important that once a month you mix one part apple cider vinegar with three parts water. After your shampoo and conditioner routine, you should rinse your hair with this mixture. It boosts shine and removes the mineral residue that’s making your hair look dull.

3.      A touch-up can do wonders

Another easier method to keep your hair color fresh is to ask for a root touch-up between appointments. Your hairstylist can lighten your darker roots with one or two shades. This way, your hair will look almost flawless until the next appointment. Good-bye dull hair! Good-bye dark roots!

4.      Protect your hair!

The main rule of keeping your hair color fresh: don’t let the harmful UV rays damage it! It’s crucial, especially in the summer, to wear hats or scarfs when out in the sun to make sure that you’re protecting your hair. UV rays make your hair color fade, so you need to be extra careful!

5.      Don’t wash your hair too frequently!

This is every hairstylist’s advice: DON’T wash your hair too frequently! Remember point one? If you don’t have a filter on, all these damaging components of water will slowly but surely destroy your hair color. The solution? Try washing your hair once or twice a week and touch up with a high-quality dry shampoo in between.
