How to Do a Face Massage (for Beauty Benefits) on Yourself

December 16, 2016 by Jennifer Scott

Facials are good for your skin because they improve blood circulation, leading to a better-looking and brighter complexion. Through massage you can make your skin firmer and lift it up, reducing wrinkles and saggy skin areas. Besides helping you against aging signs and gravity effects, a face massage will also relax you. Apply the following steps and tips on how to do a face massage on your own.

How to Do a Cleansing & Exfoliating Face Massage – Main Steps

doing a face massage

#1. Prepare Your Skin

First of all, you should pull all your hair back so that it doesn’t cover your face. Use hairpins or a hairband to make sure that your locks will stay away from your face. The entire face area, including your forehead, needs to be exposed so that it benefits from the massage. Use a gentle cleansing product to wash your face. The best you can do is rinsing your face with lukewarm water. Avoid cold or hot water. You can even use oils such as coconut, olive, almond or jojoba oil. As long as you don’t have any makeup left on your face, any of the above cleansing methods will do the trick.

#2. Create the Proper Facial Scrub

If you feel like you don’t have enough time or desire to prepare your won facial scrub, you can use a store-bought product. Still, you should make sure that anything you purchase contains natural ingredients that will not damage or irritate your complexion. If you choose to make it at home, you will need sugar, honey, and lemon juice. There are endless possibilities and options for facial scrubs. For example, you can combine honey with ground almonds and aloe or milk with honey and oatmeal. All these recipes make a great base for a face massage, removing your dead skin cells.

#3. Exfoliate Your Face in a Gentle Manner

Start applying the scrub from your forehead down to your nose and around your cheeks. Go all the way to your under-the-chin area. In other words, you must follow your T-zone. Don’t forget to use only gentle circular motions. The type of movements you use as well as how hard you press are very important aspects of a good and correct massage. Don’t overdo it with too much pressing. Instead, you should let the mixture do the work.

#4. Use Different Tools to Rinse the Scrub Away

You can rinse the scrub away with water. Then, pat it dry with a towel and be ready for the next part of the face massage. Use a brush or other massage tools completely remove all the leftover dead cells. If you don’t feel like smearing your face with a sticky scrub, you can also use a dry exfoliating brush or a clean cloth. On the other hand, you should choose only one method, without combining them.

#5. Apply the Finishing Touches: Mask & Moisturizer

After an exfoliating face massage, you should apply a facial mask, especially because your pores are still open and moist. You should use a mask that suits your skin type’s needs. For example, if you have acne-prone complexion, go for a combination of honey and white bentonite clay. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes, then rinse it off, and apply a moisturizing cream.

Let’s Recap

A face massage can improve your skin’s appearance, making it healthier and better-looking. During the application, you should only use circular motions. Moreover, you should prepare and apply certain scrubs and masks that suit your complexion’s issues and needs.
