If you are like me, always looking for organic cosmetic products and especially cruelty free ones, you probably end up browsing the internet and trusting other peoples’ reviews. Some beauty and makeup products in this range are more available and visible somehow than others. When it comes to mascara, however, things get a bit more complicated. A good, reliable mascara should provide you with good tint, coverage, elongation and volume effect. It should not clump or flake and have the perfect density. It should be waterproof (or at least smudge-proof) and never irritate your eyes. And, if it is in the organic department, it should nourish and protect your lashes.
Putting all these criteria on the list is easy, but finding the mascara to rise up to all your expectations might not be. I have sensitive eyes and a fierce ambition of using organic cosmetic products. As you can probably figure out, I spent a considerable amount of time looking for a product to fit the bill.
One of my friends suggested me to look for the best drugstore mascara organic products and I found some interesting products. After some serious research, I chose to buy the EVXO Mineral Mascara. It promised lash heaven while also being cruelty free, vegan, and organic.
I bought and used the product for about a month now – on a daily basis. My mascara wear has a casual flair to it: work, running errands, meet friends and so on. Now I am going to tell you how things worked out when using this product every single morning before leaving the house.
Things to Consider before Buying the EVXO Mineral Mascara
I am not a stranger to using makeup, but I do try hard to find no cruelty products and only products that are organic and thus safe for my sensitive eyes. While I do avoid wearing makeup whenever I can, I still have to look decent every day at work, so some eyeliner, mascara, a bit of lipstick or lip-gloss and a dash of blush are mandatory. Having dry skin and sensitive eyes makes things a bit harder, but I manage.
I have used normal mascaras for years, trying to buy them from brands I know that do not associate with animal testing. But an organic mascara should have brought the best of all worlds. The EVXO Mineral Mascara promised a lot, but there are a few things to know before you buy and use the product, because it is not perfect.
- Organic ingredients: While I do appreciated the lack of fragrances and other chemicals in this product, I noticed the presence of preservatives, pH enhancer, and color pigment. I guess this is normal, even in an organic product, but just keep in mind that this mascara is not 100% natural or organic.
- Hold: The mascara will hold its ground for more than half a day if you apply it correctly. The problem is that it is not waterproof and it tends to dry, clump, and flake at some point. A recoating will do things worse, so I recommend you first clean the previous layer and then apply a new fresh one.
- Number of coatings: The manufacturer says you should apply two coatings for a dramatic look, and one for a subtle, casual, feminine look. I say you should stick to one coating if you do not want the “dramatic” look to translate into “a raccoon wearing too much makeup”.
- Effectiveness: The product says it will help you achieve longer lashes that are more voluminous. I got heavier lashes, that is for sure. However, if you stick to one coating with a steady hand, you will get some length and volume. Of course, you cannot compare these results with the ones provided by big brand mascaras. It is somewhat smudge-proof so if you get your coatings right, it will stay on for a good part of the day.
- Pigmentation: This mascara offers you very good black. Surprisingly good for an organic product.
- Formula: This mascara has such a thick density you will get those heavy lashes in a second if you do not pay attention when you apply it. This is one of the major problems I identified when using the product. While I do not appreciate watery mascaras, this one goes towards the other extreme.
- Removal: Remember that the mascara is not waterproof, so you will remove it easily with warm water or your regular makeup remover.

EVXO Mineral Mascara
This EVXO Mineral Mascara comes with a nice wand that is easy to hold and use. Unfortunately, the thick formula of the mascara makes it hard to apply and manage. I saw some reviewers stating that they sent back the product because they could not use it. I did not send it back and actually used it with success – meaning that I had to develop some skills to apply it so it did not clump or make my lashes overcharged and heavy. I appreciated the pigmentation a lot, together with the decent length and volume it brought. Let me sum up the pros and cons of this product so we can all have a better picture.
Pros
- Organic and containing natural ingredients
- Great lash cover and pigmentation
- Cruelty free, vegan, gluten free, good for sensitive eyes
Cons
- Very thick formula
- Tends to clump and smudge
- Not waterproof
EVXO Mineral Mascara Features and Benefits
So far, one might think I did not like this product. I did and still do, albeit it has some flaws. When you have sensitive eyes, you like organic mascara (and eyeliners or lid makeup) a lot. I seem to be sensitive to anything that goes near my eyes, dust, pollution, chemicals, vapors, cosmetic products; you name it. I found that this mascara was mild with my eyes. I also found that it did stay on my lashes for more than half a day before it began to clump and dry. But let me tell you in detail the features and benefits of this product as I identified them while using it.
- Good for sensitive eyes. Some women said the mascara led them to itchy and uncomfortable eyes. I did not experience such side effects, but if you do, remove the mascara and discontinue the use. It is the reasonable thing to do with any cosmetic product.
- Great pigmentation. The product does contain some artificial color pigments, but it does its job great of turning your undefined brown lashes in deep dark ones.
- The wand is easy and comfortable to use. Of course, you need to master your mascara application skills, especially because of the mascara’s thick density, but if you get the hang of it, you will be just fine.
- The formula comes with good natural ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the presence of olive oil and vegetable glycerin, as I have dry skin and hair and sensitive skin especially around the eyes.
- The mascara is somewhat water resistant, although it is not waterproof. It is also smudge-proof.
- The mascara is cruelty free. For me, this was the most important dealmaker.
- The product is overall sustainable – including the packaging. While I do not think it is 100% organic (as it contains some artificial ingredients that probably make it mascara and not foundation), the manufacturer promises a sustainable approach.
Social Proof
As I said, I bought this product because my friend recommended me to look for organic products in the best drugstore mascara department. The reviews I found convinced me to try the product, even if some reviews can make one person think and maybe look for alternatives. However, the good reviews were compelling and I do not regret trusting them.

Conclusion
While I enjoyed the pigmentation and the mildness to my sensitive eyes, the thickness was one of the first things that put me off. While the wand is great, the actual product is rather hard to apply without smudging, clumping, getting heavy lashes.
The mascara can help you look great early in the morning, but if you want to also look great in the evening, I recommend you clean the morning layer and reapply the product. You need to develop some extra application skills in order to get it right. It is not hard, but it is time consuming.
The cruelty free, vegan, gluten free, and organic features of the product are convincing. You may find cheaper products to fit the description, as I already mentioned in the “Alternatives” subchapter. The price does not fully justify the quality, but if you are looking for organic mascaras with volumizing and length effects that last all day, are waterproof, and make you look like a diva without harming your eyes, you need to reconsider your budget; such things are rightfully expensive.
The product would have gotten a better rating if not for the thick formula and relatively low level of daily hold. On the other hand, it did work better than other cheaper no-name drugstore mascaras I tried. This product wins (at least for me) in the mildness and pigmentation categories.
In conclusion, if you want a good product with nice volume and length effects, you should try the EVXO Mineral Mascara. Is it the best drugstore mascara you ever used? Probably not, but you may be in luck to get a more liquid formula which you will apply easier and with less negative effects.
