Common causes of toothache

Usually, when your teeth hurt, it’s probably because there is something wrong with them. That horrible pain may be due to cavities, infections or gum disease. However, there are cases when the pain ahs nothing to do with your teeth and instead comes from stress or even a sinus infection. However, some of the most common and teeth-related causes are:

  • Tooth decay: This is probably the most common cause of toothache. Tooth decay usually happen when the acids from plaque bacteria enter the tooth and cause a loss of minerals. If left untreated, it progresses and causes this almost unbearable pain.
  • Damaged teeth: If a tooth (or more) causes you pain it may be because there is something wrong with it. You may even have a cracked or broken tooth. The best solution for this would be to immediately go see a dentist. A broken tooth can often lead to tooth decay.
  • Bruxism: This is the scientific name given to the habit of grinding your teeth. Millions of people struggle with it as it causes huge toothaches. Without professional treatment, this can destroy your tooth enamel and in time, it can lead to tooth decay. Some of the causes of bruxism are poor jaw alignment, crooked teeth or even stress and anxiety.
  • Tooth sensitivity: Tooth sensitivity is another very common cause of toothache. If you have sensitive teeth you should avoid very hot or very cold beverages and foods. Also, you should stay away from peroxide-based whitening solutions.

 How to alleviate the pain

  1. As we previously said, the best thing you can do when your teeth hurt is to go see your dentist. But if you don’t consider your toothache urgent or don’t have time for this, you can try some home remedies. For sensitive teeth, you can buy an extra soft toothbrush and sensitive teeth toothpaste to protect them.
  2. If you want your teeth to stop hurting, you can try taking an over-the-counter painkiller for emergencies. Also, you can try rinsing your mouth with warm water. Careful, don’t rinse it with hot water as it will cause more pain!
  3. When you’re finally deciding to go to the dentist you can try to listen to music to calm    your nerves. Apart from this, you should try to schedule your appointment in one of your free days to get rid of any stress. Lastly, talk about the issue with the doctor. The dentist will surely know how to approach your problem.

In conclusion

So, it’s important to be aware of the different factor that can cause a toothache. Were this tips n how to alleviate the pain useful? Did you know about all these causes? Please tell us what you think!
