You may think that you have to be a Queen to get something as good for your hair as a banana hair mask. Just kidding, it’s not that difficult to gain access to this wondrous treatment. In fact, you can easily prepare it yourself, using nothing but affordable and quick-to-find ingredients. Without further ado, let’s discover the magic of banana hair conditioning and the ‘spells’ you need to create it yourself.
What a Banana Hair Mask Is Good For
Your hair needs some vitamins and nutrients to grow strong and healthy. And guess what food contains said vitamins? That’s right, bananas. Bananas are a reliable source of potassium, as well as vitamins A, E, and C. Their biggest problem, however, is that they also contain a lot of calories. Thus, most of us avoid regularly including them in our diets.
Luckily, beauty finds a way regardless. Masks, either for hair or face, are a flexible and trustworthy treatment for those who seek a topical application of the vitamins and nutrients they need most.
4 Banana Hair Mask Variations
#1 The Classic
You can reap plenty of benefits just by using a banana alone. Find a ripe banana and mash it, either manually or using a food processor to make sure there are no chunks. Then, simply spread the paste through your hair, securing everything in place with a plastic shower cap. To enhance the actions of the banana, wrap a hot towel around the cap. Alternatively, take off the cap after 20 minutes and use a blow dryer until everything sets in place. Finally, rinse in the shower (do it thoroughly!) and shampoo generously.
#2 The Honey One
This time we’ll give you one additional ingredient.
Find your ripe banana, mash it, and then mix in one-two tablespoons of honey. Apply to your hair, particularly focusing on your tips. Keep on for approximately 15 minutes, using the same shower cap and towel method if you want. Rinse off and shampoo thoroughly.
#3 The Coconut Oil One
We’re still at only two ingredients, folks.
Get a ripe banana, mash it until there are no chunks left, and then add in 1-2 tablespoons of pure coconut oil. Spread through your hair, secure with a plastic cap to avoid the mess, and then wash off after 15 minutes.
#4 The Mixed One (Plus Another)
Of course, you can get even better results if you choose to prepare a recipe that uses bananas, honey, and coconut oil. You don’t have to stop there, though. For extra consistency, add 1/2 cup of full-fat milk, coconut milk, or yogurt as well.
Mash the banana in a blender until it becomes pasty, add in the rest of the ingredients, and mix well until everything becomes a consistent substance. Wait for 30 minutes and then rinse off, shampooing generously.
We recommend letting your hair air dry after using any of these recipes.
